Growth: Slender rhizomes, clump forming. Grow in a woodland setting, bog garden or naturalized garden in part sun to dappled shade. Prefers medium to wet soils.
Characteristics: Moderately slow growing. Native to Canadian prairies. A valuable pollinator, bees enter the pouch and immediately are covered with pollen before they can come back out.
Colours: Mid-green elliptical leaves with prominent parallel veining emerge late in spring, followed by pouch-shaped yellow flowers with purple dotting around the opening. Flowers occur one or two per stem. Sepals and outer petals are greenish-yellow to brown with wavy margins.
