Linnaea borealis

(Longtube twinflower)

Growth: Native perennial found in cool, dark forests or in open woods in moist to average soils. Clump-forming, trailing along the ground with long runners, with flowers on erect stems. Grow in the woodland garden or in a naturalized setting in full to part shade.

Characteristics: Nodding, light pink flowers are borne in pairs at the top of short, Y-shaped stalks (thus the name “twinflower”). Flowers are fragrant, blooming for about a week in June-July. Small round, leathery, dark green leaves are also borne in twins on either side of the stem.
