Growth: Upright in full sun, more lax in part shade, many-stemmed, self-seeding, colonizing, native blue flax thrives in open meadows, prairies and ditches. Grow in the herbaceous sunny border, rock garden, cottage garden or in a naturalized meadow setting. 

Characteristics: Leafy, wiry stems produce clear blue, saucer-shaped flowers on slender stalks near the top. Leaves are blue-green and fine, creating an airy effect to the whole plant. Performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. Blooms throughout the summer. Drought tolerant.
