Growth:  Upright, rhizomatous, clump-forming with erect stems. Grow informally in a naturalized or woodland setting. 

Characteristics: Native dwarf shrub or sub-shrub with clusters of drooping, tubular bright blue flowers. Flowers appear June and July on long, upright stalks. Leaves are variable, predominantly deep green and lance-shaped. Native to the boreal forest, it performs best in dappled sun to shade in moist, well-drained soil but can tolerate drier conditions as well.
