Penstemon ‘Blackbeard’

(‘Blackbeard’ beardtongue)

Growth: Upright, bushy, clumping. This penstemon hybrid is noted for its compact, non-floppy habit. A staple in the cottage garden or herbaceous border. Grow in full sun and average, very well-drained soil.

Characteristics: With a long bloom period from mid-summer to fall frost, ‘Blackbeard’ is special among penstemons for its cold hardiness, its tidy habit and its rich dark purple leaves and stems, against which its lilac purple flowers with white flaring tubes appear luminescent. It is a magnet for bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators and is deer resistant. Makes a great, longlasting cut flower.
