Salvia x sylvestris ‘May Night’

Growth: Upright, vigorous, branched, clump-forming with erect flower stems. Grow in the herbaceous border, cottage garden or massed in a meadow garden. Performs best in full sun and medium, well-drained soil.

Characteristics: Tall, showy dense spikes of tiny, two-lipped deep violet-blue flowers rise above a clump of aromatic, crinkly, notched leaves in early to mid-summer. Cut back flower stalks to extend bloom time. A favourite of bees,  butterflies and hummingbirds. Great as a cut flower.
