Astilbe chinensis (Chinese astilbe)

Growth:  Clump forming, rhizomatous. Grow them at the back of the shade border, near a water feature, or in a partly sunny, moist woodland garden.

Characteristics: Grown for its striking plume-like flowers above dark green or purplish foliage, Chinese astilbe is a standout when it blooms in mid to late summer. Blooms last for the better part of a month with enough moisture and shade. They also last well as a cut flower.
